How does weight loss medication work?

Weight loss medications help with weight loss through various mechanisms, such as reducing appetite, delaying gastric emptying, or influencing metabolic processes. Most prescription medications work by affecting the hormone balance, making you feel less hungry and feeling full for longer.

Who is weight loss medication suitable for?

Weight loss medication is for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher (obesity), or a BMI of 27 or higher in combination with weight-related health conditions such as type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure.

Once you start, you complete a medical questionnaire for evaluation by one of the Dutch Goodweigh doctors.

Based on the questionnaire, one of our doctors will contact you via a secure chat. During the consultation, you will have the opportunity to ask the doctor questions. You can also send our doctors a message at any time during the treatment if you have any questions or would like to make changes.

Once the doctor has determined that prescription treatment is appropriate, they will approve your application and issue you a prescription.

Our pharmacy will then have the treatment delivered to your home. This is where your weight loss program begins.

Does the online consultation take place at a scheduled time?

Does the online consultation require a phone or video call?

In most cases, there is no need for a phone or video call. Once one of our doctors has reviewed your information, you will receive a response via secure chat messages that you can access via your Goodweigh account.

Once you have started your weight loss program, you can schedule a (video) meeting with one of our health advisors to help you get off to a good start.

In addition, you can contact our doctors and health advisors via secure chat messages whenever you want.

Who may not be suitable for the Goodweigh Weight Loss Program?

Although our doctors review individual circumstances in detail, the Goodweigh weight loss program is generally not appropriate for certain groups of patients, including those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or actively trying to become pregnant, who do not meet the definition of overweight or obesity, and who are over 75 years old.

If the doctor ultimately decides that the program is not suitable for you, or if you decide not to continue with the program, you will receive a full refund.

Why do I need a comprehensive program?

When we lose weight, 20-40% of it consists of muscle mass. Loss of muscle mass can increase our risk of lower bone density, fatigue, injuries, decreased strength and also leads to a greater chance of weight gain.
