Ozempic (semaglutide) is a medication for treating type 2 diabetes (diabetes) and “off-label” for weight loss in adults with a BMI ≥30, or ≥27 in the presence of weight-related conditions. It suppresses appetite and promotes weight loss. The active ingredient semaglutide helps to lower blood sugar levels when they are too high.
Ozempic comes in a pre-filled syringe. A pen contains 4 doses. One dose is injected each week. The medicine can be injected by yourself. This medicine is available in various strengths from 0.25 mg to 1.0 mg.
The injection solution is contained in a pen. Also read the usage instructions in the box. This medication should be injected just under the skin, into the upper thigh, abdomen, or upper arm. The medication should be injected once a week. To do this, choose a fixed day of the week. Note this fixed day on the calendar in the package or in your mobile phone. It does not matter if this medication is injected before, during, or after eating. Semaglutide can be used at any time of the day. Choose a fixed time so you're less likely to forget it. The fixed day of injection can be changed. Make sure there is at least 3 days between injections.
The starting dose is 0.25 mg semaglutide once weekly. After 4 weeks, the dose should be increased to 0.5mg once a week. After at least 4 weeks with a dose of 0.5mg once a week, the dose may be increased to 1mg once a week (and optionally to 2mg after 4 weeks on 1mg).
If a dose is missed, it should be administered as soon as possible and within 5 days of the missed dose. If more than 5 days have elapsed, the missed dose should be missed and the next dose administered on the usual scheduled day. In either case, the usual weekly dosing schedule can then be resumed.
